Spotlight: ALASKAN DREAMS by Beth Carpenter

The dream she wants

The love she found

Lauren Shepherd has traded her hectic office job for a quiet life working on an elderly friend’s farm. Risking everything to move to Alaska might just be the perfect opportunity for her—if Lauren can convince handsome and fiercely protective Patrick O’Shea that she’s not swindling his grandmother. But when financial troubles threaten her dream, Lauren and Patrick unite in a hunt for a legendary treasure…only to discover something between them more precious than gold.

Beth generously offered a couple of giveaways and wrote this wonderful post on what inspired her to write this story.  Details on the giveaways are located at the end of this post.

Is there anything cuter than a baby goat? I was putting together a proposal to write more books for Harlequin Heartwarming, and I couldn’t resist the idea of a goat farmer for my heroine. I love multi-generational casts, and so I gave the hero a headstrong grandmother. And from there, the premise of Alaskan Dreams was born.

Patrick doesn’t think his widowed grandmother, Bonnie, should live alone on the farm anymore, but she doesn’t want to leave until she’s found a historic gold nugget that’s rumored to be hidden there. So she invites Lauren, a would-be goat farmer she only knows through an online goat forum, to come to Alaska. The plan is that Lauren will share her home and raise goats on the farm, sweeping the legs out from under Patrick’s argument.

Of course, there are complications. Patrick suspects Lauren might be pulling a scam. Lauren works hard to gain his trust. And then, just as the two of them begin to work things out, Lauren runs into a major snag in her plans for the farm. Finding the gold nugget would solve her problem and Bonnie’s, but it will take everyone working together to pull it off.

When I submitted my proposal to my agent, Barbara Rosenberg, she suggested I include goat yoga. She’d gone to a class and loved it. And from that suggestion sprung the Mat Mates, Bonnie’s group of yoga friends with the skills and contacts to help make Lauren’s dream come true.
