The Shores of Indian Lake series hits its eleventh installment with HERS TO PROTECT. One of the aspects of the series is the sense of a strong community connection. The town of Indian Lake shines like a hope-filled beacon in our disturbing present world. Indian Lake is not a dream or illusion. It exists in many towns around the world. It is where people come to each other’s aid in time of need. More importantly, the people of Indian Lake are there for each other in good times as well.

*
Within the story of Violet and Josh’s growing relationship, is the fund-raising efforts of familiar characters, Mrs. Beabots, Sarah Bosworth, Maddie Strong Barzonni, Gina Barzonni and all the Hawks’ family.

*
In FAMILY OF HIS OWN and most recently, RESCUED BY THE FIREFIGHTER, I introduced several foster children characters. In HERS TO PROTECT, Mrs. Beabots takes it upon herself to begin fundraising for a Community Center focusing on education for foster children, especially. Gina Barzonni donates the acreage to build the center and several “casitas” which will house volunteer teachers for art, music, mechanical/car repair skills and theater arts. Mrs. Beabots enlists Violet’s help to persuade Josh Stevens to be their “celebrity draw” to sell tickets at the first fundraiser at Austin McCreary’s Antique Car Museum.

*
Violet is skeptical about her ability to persuade Josh to do anything, however she’s successful. Little does she know that Josh has been coached by his manager to “play nice” with everyone in Indian Lake while he works off his “community service”. Josh is dodging the media, laying low before the big Memorial Day race and cannot afford a single bad “hit” on social media or in the press.

*
It’s Josh who is stunned as he investigates the land Gina is donating, listens to the plans for the buildings and how much the foster children will benefit from the skills and education provided for them, he warms to the idea more than he’d ever imagined.
His only problem is —he can never tell Violet that the very drug lord she’s hoping to capture, was once in foster care along with Josh. They had been so close that Josh had considered them as close as brothers.
